The Iriomote tit (Sittiparus olivaceus) is a small passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is endemic to the Yaeyama Islands which lie to the south west of Japan and to the east of Taiwan. Iriomote is the name of the largest island in the group.
The Iriomote tit was first described by the Japanese ornithologist Nagamichi Kuroda in 1923 and given the trinomial name Sittiparus varius olivaceus.[2] It was formerly considered as subspecies of the varied tit but after the publication of a phylogenetic study in 2014 it was promoted to species status.[3][4]
The species differs from the varied tit in having a washed olive colouring on the back.[5]

Iriomotemes[2] (Sittiparus olivaceus) är en nyligen urskiljd fågelart i familjen mesar inom ordningen tättingar som enbart förekommer på en enda ö i Ryukyuöarna i södra Japan.[3]
Iriomotemesen behandlades fram tills nyligen som underart till samurajmesen, men skiljer sig tydligt från denna genom mycket blekare gulbrun undersida, mycket mindre svart haklapp, grå istället för rostfärgad mantel och mycket smalare centralt hjässband. Även sången verka skilja sig genom att bestå av ett snabbt alternerande mellan höga och låga toner, men denna är mycket lite studerad. Kroppslängden är 11-13 cm.[4]
Iriomotemesen förekommer enbart på ön Iriomote i södra Ryukyuöarna där den är stannfågel, dock med ett tveksamt fynd från grannön Ishigaki.[3][4] Tidigare behandlades den som en underart till samurajmes (S. varius) och vissa gör det fortfarande.[5] De flesta taxonomiska auktoriteter har dock delat upp samurajmesen i fyra arter på basis av studier som visar på tydliga genetiska och utseendemässiga skillnader,[6] förutom iriomotesmesen även owstonmes (S. owstoni) och taiwanmes (S. castaneoventris).
Tidigare fördes samurajmesen till Poecile (som ännu tidigare inkluderades i ett stort Parus), men urskiljs numera oftast som ett eget släkte efter DNA-studier.[7] Iriomotemesen förs därför också dit.
Iriomotemesen förekommer i skogsområden, men dess mer exakta biotopkrav är inte kända. Varken föda eller häckningsbiologi finns beskriven, men tros likna samurajmesen.[4]
Artens populationstrend är okänd och utbredningsområdet är mycket litet. Internationella naturvårdsunionen IUCN anser trots det att den inte kan anses vara hotad och placerar den därför i kategorin livskraftig.[1]
