Esomus metallicus è un pesce d'acqua dolce e salmastra appartenente alla famiglia Cyprinidae[1].
Distribuzione e habitat
Questa specie è diffusa nel Sudest asiatico, nei bacini idrografici dei fiumi Mekong, Salween e Chao Phraya. Predilige acque molto calme, preferendo aree a inondazione stagionale come risaie, canali, aree forestali soggette a inondazioni regolari.
Descrizione
Presenta un corpo snello e sottile, piuttosto allungato, poco compresso ai fianchi. Le pinne sono piccole e trapezoidali, la dorsale e l'anale sono molto arretrate, opposte e simmetriche, vicine alla pinna caudale. Dalla bocca partono due finissimi barbigli, lunghi oltre la metà del corpo. La livrea vede un corpo semitrasparente, con fondo giallastro e riflessi argentei, mentre il ventre è bianco argenteo. Dall'opercolo branchiale partono due sottili linee orizzontali, oro e nero, che arrivano fino alla radice della coda. Le pinne sono trasparenti.
Raggiunge una lunghezza massima di 7,5 cm.
Riproduzione
Sono pesci ovipari. Non effettuano cure parentali.
Alimentazione
E. metallicus si nutre di zooplancton, larve e insetti terrestri e acquatici.
Pesca
Viene pescato per l'alimentazione umana: è utilizzato soprattutto per il Prahok (piatto cambogiano a base di pasta di pesce fermentato).

Вид поширений у Південно-східній Азії у басейні річок Меконг і Чаопхрая. Він також був завезений на острови Сінгапур і Борнео, і на Філіппіни.

Спосіб життя
Мешкає серед рівнинних річок, струмків, в болотах і озерах, як правило, у дрібній, повільно водоймах або в тихому болоті, адаптувався до життя у міських районах, у каналізаційних і техногенних водах. Уникає великих річок. Харчується зоопланктоном, наземними комахами і водними личинками комах.

Cá lòng tong sắt (Danh pháp khoa học: Esomus metallicus) là một loài cá trong họ cá chép sinh sống trong hệ thống sông Mekong và sông Chao Phraya.
Đặc điểm
Về bề ngoài, cá có thân dài, dẹp bên, đầu nhỏ; mắt trung bình, miệng nhỏ, xiêng hướng lên trên, có hai đôi râu, râu mõm kéo dài đến sau viền mắt, râu hàm kéo dài đến quá gốc vây bụng.
Vây lưng nằm thiên về phía sau, gần như đối xứng với vây hậu môn, vây ngực dài và nhọn, vây đuôi phân thùy sâu. Vẩy trung bình phủ toàn thân, đường bên kéo dài đến gốc vây hậu môn. Thân màu nâu sáng có ánh bạc, một sọc đen đậm rộng dọc giữa thân từ mắt đến gốc vây đuôi.
