Description: Characterized by deep pink color; scales with yellow spot; upper operculum with large bright yellow spot; yellow bands radiating from eye; greatest depth of body 3.4-3.8 in SL; no prolonged dorsal spines; lunate caudal fin with prolonged lobes in male (Ref. 90102).

Occurs inshore near coral reefs (Ref. 7300). Also occurs in small groups near caves, ledges and dropoffs (Ref. 9710, 48635). Solitary but sometimes in loose aggregations (Ref. 48635). Secretive, swims upside-down (Ref. 37816).
