Morfologia

Els mascles poden assolir 30 cm de longitud total.^[5]^[6]
Pell nua i viscosa.
No té tentacles al cap.
Coloració variable.^[7]

Reproducció

És ovípar^[8] i el període de fresa té lloc entre abril i agost.^[7]

Alimentació

Menja petits invertebrats bentònics, especialment gastròpodes, percebes, amfípodes i algues.^[5]

Depredadors

A les Illes Açores és depredat pel serrà mascle (Serranus atricauda).^[9]^[10]

Hàbitat

És un peix marí de clima temperat que viu entre 0-8 m de fondària.^[5]

Distribució geogràfica
