Single, long and thin postcleithrum, well separate from the cleithrum (indicates loss of upper postcleithrum); basisphenoid reduced and loosely attached to the neurocranium; reduced pterosphenoid excluded from external surface of neurocranium; swimbladder in adults; lower jaw margin with well-developed labial flaps; left and right dentaries sutured together; males with distal tips of dorsal and anal-fin rays expanded and with flaplike structures, with fleshy flap near base of anterior margin of first dorsal-fin spine; in comparison to females, males lack conspicuous banding pattern; unbranched central caudal-fin rays; number of epurals reduced from 2 to 1 (Ref. 94102)

Adults exhibit conspicuous sexual dimorphism (Ref. 94102). Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114).

Phenablennius heyligeri ist eine Art der Schleimfische (Blenniidae), die im Süß- und Brackwasser in Sumatra, dem nördlichen Borneo (Sarawak) und in Kambodscha vorkommt. Die Art ist systematisch isoliert und wird einer eigenen Tribus zugeordnet.
Merkmale
Phenablennius heyligeri wird nur 5,6 cm lang. Die Art besitzt eine typische, langgestreckte Schleimfischgestalt. Alle Flossenstrahlen sind unverzweigt. Die Bauchflossen verfügen über drei gegliederte Flossenstrahlen, die Rückenflosse über 14 bis 15 gegliederte Weichstrahlen und 12 oder 13 Flossenstacheln, die, wie bei allen Schleimfischen, relativ biegsam sind. Die Wirbelanzahl beträgt 32 bis 34 (10 + 22–24). Phenablennius heyligeri hat fünf Infraorbitalporen (Poren des Seitenlinienorgans unterhalb der Augen), Labialfalten an jedem Kiefer und ein einzelnes Postcleithrum, ein Knochen im Schultergürtel. Andere Schleimfische besitzen zwei Postcleithra oder ein bis drei Postcleithrafragmente. Phenablennius heyligeri ist ovipar. Die Eier sinken zu Boden und haften am Untergrund.

Phenablennius heyligeri is a species of combtooth blenny found in the western central Pacific ocean around Sumatra, Borneo and off the coast of Cambodia. This species reaches a length of 5.3 centimetres (2.1 in) SL. This species is currently the only known member of its genus. The specific name honours the person who collected the type, R.V. Heyliger, who was the Belgian consul in Batavia.
