體延長，縱扁。枕骨區具二低骨質突起。鰓孔側位。前鰓蓋骨強棘末端延長，而稍向上彎曲，強棘腹緣平滑，背緣具二個彎曲棘突，強棘基部平滑無倒棘。側線從眼到尾鰭第4分叉鰭條末端，枕骨區具一橫向側線，且尾柄上方具二條橫向側線，將兩側側線相連。第一背鰭低，第I背鰭棘短於第1軟條，雄魚第III及第IV棘稍延長；第二背鰭鰭緣平直或稍凸；背鰭鰭條除最後一鰭條在基部分支外，其餘鰭條均分支；臀鰭除最後一鰭條外，均不分支；尾鰭稍延長，鰭緣截平。保存標本體呈乳白色，具五條深棕色斜帶及白斑；胸鰭基部具黑斑；雄魚頰部亦具白斑；第一背鰭淺棕色，雄魚具棕斑、白斑及白線，雌魚具排成二列的棕斑；雌、雄魚第二背鰭色淡，鰭基具白斑，鰭緣及鰭後半部具深棕色斑；雄魚臀鰭近鰭緣處棕色或黑色，且通常具水平線，雌魚臀鰭棕色；尾鰭上半部具排成二垂列的深斑，而雄魚下半部深棕色，雌魚色淡。
