體長橢圓形，側扁；兩眼均位頭右側，眼間隔處有鱗片。吻短圓；口小，口裂弧形；僅盲側上下頜具細齒；腭骨無齒。前鼻管單一短小，僅達下眼之前緣。前鰓蓋骨邊緣被皮膜與鱗；鰓膜與峽部分離。兩側皆被櫛鱗，側線被圓鱗；背鰭與臀鰭鰭條大多分枝，與尾鰭相連，背鰭軟條數71-74，臀鰭軟條數56-67；胸鰭不分支。兩側均具胸鰭；尾鰭圓鈍。眼側體灰褐色，散布許多不明顯之雲狀灰黑色斑，奇鰭具黑緣，胸鰭黑褐色；盲側淡黃白色。

Distribución geográfica
Se encuentra desde las costas de Mozambique hasta las de KwaZulu-Natal (Sudáfrica). También en Japón y las Filipinas.[1]

Se comercializa exclusivamente fresco.
