Felimare orsinii (Vérany 1846)

Felimare orsinii is a species of colourful sea slug, a dorid nudibranch in the family Chromodorididae.^[2]

Distribution

This nudibranch is found in the Western Mediterranean Sea. Animals from the Eastern Mediterranean apparently lack the yellow colour in the submarginal line, but are considered to be the same species.^[3]

Description

Felimare orsinii is one of a group of Felimare species from the Mediterranean Sea which are all quite similar. This species can be distinguished from the others by the entirely blue gills and rhinophores and the small raised tubercles on the back. There is a single median white line which is slightly edged with blue and a line at the edge of the mantle which is white except at the sides where it grades into yellow. The body reaches a length of 20 mm.^[4] This species eats the sponge Scalarispongia scalaris.^[3][5] Previously known as Hypselodoris orsinii all Atlantic species of Hypselodoris were shown to belong to a separate clade and were transferred to the genus Felimare in 2012.^[6]

Le doris céleste (Felimare orsinii) est un nudibranche de la famille des Chromodorididés, endémique de la mer Méditerranée.

Description

Ce petit nudibranche, d'une taille maximum de 20 millimètres, est d'un bleu profond, de ses rhinophores annelés jusqu'au panache branchial. Une seule ligne blanche parcourt son corps dans le sens de la longueur et une autre ligne, blanche ou jaune, dessine un liseré le long du manteau.

Biotope

Il est endémique de la mer Méditerranée^[1], du détroit de Gibraltar à la mer Égée et vit sur des éponges Cacospongia ou sur les posidonies, entre 5 et 40 mètres de profondeur.

Étymologie

L'origine de l'épithète spécifique orsinii n’a pas été précisée par l'auteur^[1].

Il doride di Orsini (Felimare orsinii (Vérany, 1846)) è un mollusco nudibranchio della famiglia Chromodorididae.^[1]

Descrizione

Corpo di colore blu, talvolta violetto, caratteristiche le strisce unicamente bianche, sia sul dorso che sui lati dove possono essere parzialmente giallastre. Rinofori di colore blu. Lunghezza fino a 2 centimetri.

Biologia

Reperibile spesso su spugne del genere Cacospongia (Cacospongia mollior, Cacospongia scalaris) Cliona celata, Dysidea fragilis, Hymeniacidon sanguinea, Ircinia fasciculata, del genere Petrosia (Petrosia dura e Petrosia ficiformis).^[2]

Distribuzione e habitat

Endemico del Mar Mediterraneo occidentale.

Specie affini

Talvolta confuso con Felimare tricolor, che presenta però alcune linee di colore giallo, o con F. gasconi, che però presenta linee gialle e una linea bianca sui rinofori.

Felimare orsinii is een slakkensoort uit de familie van de Chromodorididae.^[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1846 door Vérany.
