Distinguished from other species by having the following combination of characters: terminal mouth; protrusible mouth; 8 branched rays on dorsal fin; 5 branched rays on anal fin; 8 anal-fin rays; 10-12 pre-anal scales; 9 pre-dorsal scales; 3 1/2 scales between lateral line and anal fin; 4 1/2- 5 1/2 scales between lateral line and dorsal fin; 9-10 circumpeduncular scales; a black band present outer to operculum; a black botch present in front of occiput; absence of spot on the dorsal-fin base; a row of black spots in the middle of dorsal fin; a deep black caudal spot; green dorsal and caudal fin; body depth at dorsal origin 31.5-33.8% SL; snout length 22.7-31.8% in HL; eye diameter 26.1-31.6% HL; head depth 68.2-80.0% HL; head length 26.4-31.1% SL; caudal peduncle length 16.3-17.8% SL (Ref. 94758).
