Perennial herbs, dying back each year, with corms. Leaves several. Inflorescence a spike. Flowers zygomorphic, salver-shaped to widely funnel-shaped, often strongly and sweetly scented, in our species pink, red or whitish in colour (much more colour variation elsewhere). Tepals ± equal or dorsal larger and hooded. Style filiform, each branch deeply divided and recurved. Fruit a capsule.
