Chaenactis is a genus of plants in the family Asteraceae which are known generally as pincushions and dustymaidens.[2][3]
These wildflowers are native to western North America, especially the desert southwest of the United States. They are quite variable in appearance. They are generally aster-like in appearance with many disc florets in each head. There may be only disc florets, but sometimes there are also enlarged ray florets along the edges of the corolla. They may be white to yellow or pink.[4]

Son flores silvestres nativas de América del Norte occidental, especialmente se encuentran en el desierto al suroeste de los Estados Unidos. Hay muchas especies, las cuales son muy variables en apariencia. Tienen el aspecto de un disco con muchas flores. Puede tener solo disco floral, pero a veces tienen también rayos florales a lo largo de los bordes de la corola. Pueden ser de color blanco a amarillo o rosa.
El género fue descrito por Augustin Pyrame de Candolle y publicado en Prodromus Systematis Naturalis Regni Vegetabilis 5: 659. 1836.[3]
