Perennial herbs or subshrubs. Leaves subsessile; stipule a sheath bearing 3-15 fimbriae. Flowers often heterostylous, borne in cymes or corymbs or subspherical heads. Calyx with 4 ovate-triangular lobes. Corolla tubular, 4-lobed, often with additional filament-like lobes between. Ovary 2(-3)-locular; ovules numerous in each loculus. Fruit a subspherical capsule, with a conical beak which opens both loculicidally and septicidally.

Agathisanthemum is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. It was described by Johann Friedrich Klotzsch in 1861. It is found in tropical and southern Africa, on the Comoros and in Madagascar.

Agathisanthemum – rodzaj roślin z rodziny marzanowatych (Rubiaceae). W zależności od ujęcia obejmuje od 4^[3] do 5–6^[4] gatunków. Występują w Afryce równikowej i na Komorach^[4].

Systematyka

Pozycja systematyczna według APweb (aktualizowany system APG III z 2009)

Jeden z rodzajów roślin z rodziny marzanowatych (Rubiaceae) z rzędu goryczkowców (Gentianales)^[1]. W obrębie rodziny reprezentuje podrodzinę Rubioideae i plemię Spermacoceae^[5]. Należące tu gatunki bywają klasyfikowane także do rodzaju Hedyotis^[4].
