Voorkoms
Die vis het 'n slanke lyf met die kop wat langer is as wat dit breed is en daar is een paar baarde om die mond. Die mannetjies het tuberkels op die kop. Die vis is olyfbruin en is silwer aan die onderkant en laer gedeelte van die sye. Daar is 'n donker steep in die middel van die sye. Die vis word tot 80 mm lank.
Habitat
Die vis leef in poele in helder, vloeiende bergstrome. Hulle vreet alge, detritus, ongewerweldes en ander organismes wat op die bodem leef. Hulle broei in die somer.
Bewaringstatus
Die vis is bedreigd. Visbevolkings word bedreig deur wateronttrekking en deur uitheemse spesies soos baars en forel.
