Paretroplus menarambo (pinstripe menarambo or pinstripe damba) is a species of cichlid fish.

It is threatened by invasive species and over-fishing.^[1] It is part of a captive breeding program by public institutions like London Zoo and Bolton Museum and among fishkeeping hobbyists.

Description

The pinstripe menarambo is a relatively deep-bodied Paretroplus that reaches 12.8–25 centimetres (5.0–9.8 in) in length.^[2][3] Body is very laterally compressed. The coloration is brown-gray with vertical darker bands. The fins are gray with reddish-brown border. The tail fin is crescent-shaped.

Distribution

This species is present in the floodplain lakes in the Sofia River system in northwestern Madagascar.^[1][3] It was formerly classified as extinct in the wild by the IUCN, but a remnant population has recently been discovered in Lake Tseny.^[1][4] The same lake also has populations of the related P. kieneri and P. lamenabe,^[4] and the round herring Sauvagella robusta.^[5]

Paretroplus menarambo Allgayer, 1996 è un pesce di acqua dolce appartenente alla famiglia Cichlidae ed alla sottofamiglia Etroplinae, endemico del Madagascar^[2].

Descrizione

Il suo corpo è decisamente compresso lateralmente, alto. La colorazione è marrone-grigiastra con delle eventuali fasce più scure, mimetica; le pinne sono grigie con il bordo marrone-rossiccio. La pinna caudale è a forma di mezzaluna.

La lunghezza massima è di 12,8 cm^[2].

Biologia

È oviparo e la fecondazione è esterna; le uova e gli avannotti vengono sorvegliati dai genitori molto a lungo^[1].

Distribuzione e habitat

Diffuso in passato nei laghi di pianura del Madagascar, ormai si trova soltanto nel lago Tseny, nella parte nord-occidentale dell'isola.^[1][3]

Conservazione

Questa specie è molto minacciata dalla pesca eccessiva e dal deterioramento del suo habitat, ed era diventata così rara da essere stata considerata estinta in natura^[1]. Ora viene classificata come "in pericolo critico" dalla lista rossa IUCN perché ne sono stati trovati degli esemplari in natura. L'allevamento in cattività in America del Nord e Europa ha avuto abbastanza successo.

Paretroplus menarambo is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de cichliden (Cichlidae).^[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1996 door Allgayer.

Paretroplus menarambo é peixe em perigo crítico de extinção. Esta espécie de ciclídeos está ameaçada por espécies invasoras e pesca excessiva.

Ele foi anteriormente classificada como extinta na natureza pela IUCN, mas uma população remanescente foi recentemente descoberto no Lago Tseny.

Pinstripe menarambo hay Paretroplus menarambo, là một loài cá thuộc họ Cichlidae. Nó là loài đặc hữu của Madagascar. Môi trường sống tự nhiên của chúng là Lake Sarodrano và các sông lân cận. Nó trở nên tuyệt chủng trong tự nhiên do mất môi trường sống. Hiện nó chỉ có mặt trong các bể cá nuôi, nơi nghiên cứu như London Zoo và Bản tàng Bolton.

別針條紋鯛（學名Paretroplus menarambo），又名藍鰭副熱鯛，是慈鯛科下的一種魚類。它們是馬達加斯加的特有種。

由於失去棲息地，2004年時估計別針條紋鯛已經從野外滅絕。^[1]當時發現它們分佈在Sarodrano湖及周圍的河流。但於2008年，在另一位點卻它們的野外群落，所以國際自然保護聯盟將它們的保育狀況改為極危。^[1]不過有關這個野外群落的資料大部份也不詳。^[1]另外，在北美洲及歐洲的水族箱，如倫敦動物園及博爾頓博物館（Bolton Museum）等也有飼養它們。
