Fish at least 30 mm SL with 5-6 stripes on body. Caudal peduncle with stripes +1 and -1 on scale rows +2 and -2, respectively and do not touch the dorsal and ventral midlines except in some small specimens taken from the Malay Peninsula (Ref. 37849).

The striped barb (Desmopuntius johorensis), is a species of cyprinid fish Cyprinidae native to the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, and Sumatra where it is found in the shallows of rivers, streams and ditches. This species can reach a length of 12 centimetres (4.7 in) TL. It is commercially important to local fisheries and can also be found in the aquarium trade.
