Abramites eques és una espècie de peix de la família dels anostòmids i de l'ordre dels caraciformes.^[4]

Morfologia

Abramites eques, also known as headstander, picúo, or sardina, is a member of the family Anostomidae of the order Characiformes.^[1] This South American fish, like Abramites hypselonotus, adopts a head down swimming position due to its distinct feeding habits forced upon it by the locales it frequents.

Geographical distribution and Habitat

This fish inhabits the Magdalena River basin in Colombia. Like its relative, Abramites hypselonotus, the picúo generally inhabits rocky, shallow, fast moving rivers and streams.

Aquarium care

If any plants are added to the tank, the picúo will eat them. Hardy plants like Java fern should survive but no delicate species. Branches or roots should be added to the tank to provide hiding places for the fish and soft, acidic water should be provided. They can be an aggressive species so only keep with tank mates that can look after themselves.

Feeding

A vegetable diet is best suited for the picúo. Algae wafers, pellets and high quality flake food can be given. Spinach and peas will also benefit the picúo.^[2]

Distinguishing between sexes

Mature females tend to be plumper than the males.^[2]

Abramites eques, vrsta tropske slatkovodne južnoameričke ribe iz reda Characiformes, poznata u Kolumbiji pod lokalnim vernakularnim nazivima bonito i totumito, a izvorni joj je nazvana Leporinus eques Steindachner, 1878. Oba roda pripadaju porodici Anostomidae. Ove ribe vole plivati okrenute glavom prema dnu zbog čega su ih nazvali headstanders.

A. eques je veoma nalik drgoj vrsti u ovom rodu A. hypselonotus, od koje se razlikuje po šarama na tijelu, A. eques uz tamne okomite pruge ima i jednu bočnu od repa prema glavi, koju ova druga vrsta nema.

Bonito je endem, naraste do 15 centimetara dužine a postojbina joj je bazen rijeke Magdalene. Drži se i po akvarijima, a po akvaristima očekivani životni vijek joj je 5-8 godina, a hrane je hranom biljnog porijekla (špinat, grašak i drugo)^[1].

Abramites eques is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de kopstaanders (Anostomidae).^[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1878 door Franz Steindachner.

Verspreidingsgebied

De soort komt voor in de Magdalena in Colombia.

馬頭扁脂鯉，為輻鰭魚綱脂鯉目脂鯉亞目上口脂鯉科的其中一個種，分布於南美洲哥倫比亞Magdalena河流域，體長可達15公分，棲息在植被生長茂密的水域，成對出現，生活習性不明。
