Diversibipalium és un gènere col·lectiu o "calaix de sastre" de planàries terrestres. S'hi classifiquen totes les espècies de bipalins que no s'han pogut classificar en cap altre gènere per manca d'informació morfològica, habitualment perquè els espècimens eren sexualment immadurs. S'hi assignen les species inquirenda i nomina dubia. El gènere Diversibipalium no conté espècie tipus.[1]
Els Diversibipalium es distribueixen a l'Extrem Orient, a l'Àsia Sud-oriental, i a les illes de l'Indo-Pacífic.[1]

In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts und der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden viele Arten der Landplanarien ausschließlich auf Grundlage ihrer äußeren Merkmale beschrieben. Heute basieren die Zuordnungen und Beschreibungen der Gattung auf der inneren Anatomie, vor allem der Anatomie der Fortpflanzungsorgane. Arten mit einer alten Beschreibung, die niemals in einer systematischen Übersichtsarbeit erneut beschrieben wurden und deren innere anatomische Merkmale unbekannt sind, können nicht der korrekten Gattung zugeordnet werden. Aus diesem Grund werden Arten der Unterfamilie Bipaliinae, deren Aufbau der Fortpflanzungsorgane unbekannt ist, vorübergehend der Gattung Diversibipalium zugeordnet.[1]

During the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, many land planarian species were described based solely on external characters. Currently, the genera of land planarians are highly based on their internal anatomy, especially the anatomy of the copulatory apparatus. As a result, species with old descriptions that were never redescribed, so that their internal anatomy remains unknown, cannot be assigned to the correct genus. Thus, the genus Diversibipalium was created to temporarily accommodate species of the subfamily Bipaliinae whose anatomy of the copulatory apparatus is still unknown.[1]
Diversibipalium multilineatum (Makino & Shirasawa, 1983) is a large-size invasive species, originally from Japan, now found in several European countries.[2] It is superficially similar to Bipalium kewense, which is even more widespread in the world, but can be easily distinguished by the marking on its head (D. multilineatum has an 'exclamation point' on the head).
Diversibipalium mayottensis Justine, Gastineau, Gros, Gey, Ruzzier, Charles & Winsor, 2022 is a small-size species, found only in the French island of Mayotte, in the Indian Ocean.[3] According to a comparative study of the mitochondrial genomes and other genes, D. mayottensis is the sister-group to all other bipaliines.[3]

C'est ainsi que le genre Diversibipalium a été créé pour accueillir temporairement des espèces de la sous-famille des Bipaliinae dont l'anatomie de l'appareil copulateur reste inconnue[1].
