Es creu que no hi ha cap amenaça significativa per a la supervivència d'aquesta espècie, tot i que la destrucció d'hàbitat podria esdevenir-ho en el futur.[1]

Aepeomys lugens (Thomas, 1896) è un roditore della famiglia dei Cricetidi endemico del Venezuela.[1][2]
Roditore di piccole dimensioni, con la lunghezza della testa e del corpo tra 100 e 119 mm, la lunghezza della coda tra 114 e 127 mm, la lunghezza del piede tra 27 e 28 mm e un peso fino a 42 g.[3]
La pelliccia è densa, soffice e vellutata. Le parti dorsali sono bruno-olivastre mentre quelle ventrali sono più chiare. Le orecchie sono grandi e ricoperte di corti peli brunastri. Il dorso delle zampe è ricoperto di peli brunastri, i quali diventano bianchi alla base di ogni artiglio. Il quinto dito del piede è relativamente lungo, raggiungendo la giuntura tra falangi del quarto dito. La coda è lunga circa quanto la testa ed il corpo, è uniformemente scura e rivestita di corti peli brunastri. Il cariotipo è 2n=28 FN=48.
È una specie notturna, solitaria e terricola, talvolta parzialmente arboricola. Individui sono stati osservati sotto tronchi abbattuti e alla base di alberi, felci, tra ammassi rocciosi ricoperti di muschio o licheni, nella densa vegetazione al suolo e comunque principalmente in ambienti umidi.
Si nutre di artropodi, larve e vermi.
Si riproduce in qualsiasi periodo dell'anno, particolarmente nelle stagioni più piovose. Femmine gravide sono state registrate a settembre, mentre altre che allattavano tra maggio e novembre. Danno alla luce 2-7 piccoli alla volta.
Questa specie è diffuso nelle ande venezuelane, negli stati di Táchira e Mérida.
Vive nelle foreste umide e più raramente in ambienti secondari tra 1.990 e 3.500 metri di altitudine.
La IUCN Red List, considerato che la popolazione e lo stato del suo habitat non sono in declino ed è presente in diverse aree protette, classifica A.lugens come specie a rischio minimo (LC).[1]

Gatunek został opisany naukowo w 1896 roku przez O. Thomasa[5]. Miejsce typowe to La Loma del Morro w stanie Mérida, na wysokości 3000 m n.p.m. Kariotyp zwierzęcia obejmuje 14 par chromosomów (2n=28), co wyraźnie odróżnia ten gatunek od górniaka brunatnego (Aepeomys reigi), który ma aż 22 pary chromosomów[4].
Górniak oliwkowy występuje w górach Cordillera de Mérida w Wenezueli, od wysokości 1900 do 3500 m n.p.m. Żyje w pierwotnych lasach mglistych, rzadziej w lasach wtórnych. Spotyka się go u stóp drzew i paproci drzewiastych, wśród omszonych i pokrytych porostami głazów, wśród roślin zielnych i paproci, na i w pobliżu leżących na dnie lasu konarów. Preferuje środowisko wilgotne[2].
Prowadzi samotny, nocny tryb życia, naziemny lub częściowo nadrzewny. Jest głównie owadożerny, zjada stawonogi i ich larwy oraz pierścienice. Rozmnaża się przez cały rok, chociaż najintensywniej w porze deszczowej. W miocie przeważnie rodzą się dwa młode, choć stwierdzano mioty liczące do siedmiu sztuk[2].
Jest to mały gryzoń, jego ciało z głową ma długość 100–119 mm, ogon 114–127 mm, a tylna stopa ma długość 20–30 mm[6]. Górniak oliwkowy ma miękkie, aksamitne futro o oliwkowobrązowej barwie, nieco jaśniejsze od spodu ciała. Uszy są duże (17 mm), brązowe. Dłonie i stopy są smukłe, pokryte rzadkim brązowym futrem od wierzchu, u nasady pazurów białawe. Ogon jest brązowy od wierzchu i jaśniejszy po stronie spodniej[5].
Górniak oliwkowy jest lokalnie liczny. Występuje w kilku obszarach chronionych. W przyszłości zagrożeniem może się stać dla niego utrata środowiska, ale na razie nie grozi mu to. Międzynarodowa Unia Ochrony Przyrody uznaje go za gatunek najmniejszej troski[2].

야행성 동물로 독거 생활을 하며 육상에서 서식하지만 나무 위에 오를 때도 있다. 쓰러진 나무 줄기와 나무 아래, 양치식물 속, 이끼나 지의류가 덮힌 바위 속에서 발견된다. 먹이는 절지동물과 곤충 유충이다.
베네수엘라 안데스 산맥의 타치라주와 메리다주에 널리 분포한다. 습윤 숲과 해발 1,990m와 3,500m 사이의 이차림에서 서식한다.
