Dendromus messorius (Thomas, 1903) è un roditore della famiglia dei Nesomiidi diffuso in Africa centrale.[1][2]
Roditore di piccole dimensioni, con la lunghezza della testa e del corpo tra 60 e 68 mm, la lunghezza della coda tra 72 e 95 mm, la lunghezza del piede tra 15 e 19 mm, la lunghezza delle orecchie tra 11 e 14 mm e un peso fino a 10,5 g.[3]
Le parti dorsali sono bruno-grigiastre con la base dei peli grigio scura, i fianchi sono più chiari mentre le parti ventrali, le labbra, le guance e la gola sono bianche. La linea di demarcazione lungo i fianchi è netta. Occasionalmente è presente un'indistinta striscia brunastra dorsale. Le orecchie sono relativamente grandi e rivestite di corti peli grigiastri. Le vibrisse sono lunghe, ispessite e nerastre. Le zampe sono biancastre. La coda è molto più lunga della testa e del corpo, è scura e cosparsa di corte setole nerastre.
È una specie arboricola, notturna e solitaria. Costruisce nidi sferici occupati ciascuno da un singolo individuo a circa 2,5 m dal suolo sugli alberi o tra la vegetazione alta.
Si nutre di materiale vegetale e frutta.
Questa specie è diffusa in maniera frammentata nell'Africa occidentale dal Ghana, Togo, Benin e Nigeria orientale fino al Camerun occidentale e nell'Africa orientale, nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo nord-orientale e in Uganda. Probabilmente è presente anche nel Sudan del Sud e nel Kenya occidentale.
Vive nelle piantagioni di banane, aranceti, foreste a galleria e in prati con vegetazione alta fino a 3.000 metri di altitudine.
La IUCN Red List, considerato il vasto areale, la presenza in diverse aree protette e la popolazione presumibilmente numerosa, classifica D.messorius come specie a rischio minimo (LC).[1]

Gatunek ten został opisany naukowo w 1903 roku przez O. Thomasa (jako Dendromys messorius), na podstawie okazu z Efoulan w południowym Kamerunie. Bywał łączony z występującym sympatrycznie nadrzewnikiem kasztanowym (Dendromus mystacalis). Ma on podobny wygląd, ale jest większy i ma jednolicie biały brzuch. Oba gatunki mogą być blisko spokrewnione z południowoafrykańskim nadrzewnikiem bagiennym (Dendromus mesomelas)[4]. Może to być kompleks blisko spokrewnionych gatunków[2].
Jest to bardzo mały, smukły nadrzewnik, którego ciało bez ogona mierzy od 60 do 68 mm długości (średnio 63,5 mm). Ogon jest dłuższy niż reszta ciała (ok. 140% długości; 72–95 mm). Sierść na grzbiecie i głowie jest rudobrązowa, na bokach bledsza; włosy są ciemnoszare w trzech czwartych długości od nasady, z rudobrązową pozostałą częścią. Brzuch jest cały biały, wyraźnie oddzielony kolorystycznie od boków; także wargi, policzki, gardło i pierś są białe. Uszy są względnie duże[5].
Nadrzewnik bananowy występuje na wyżynnych terenach trawiastych, na pograniczu obszarów porośniętych przez wilgotny las równikowy i sawannę[2][5]. Jest spotykany w Beninie, Togo i Kamerunie, oraz (oddzielne populacje) w dwóch miejscach we wschodniej Demokratycznej Republice Konga[2]. Prowadzi nocny tryb życia. W Kongu stwierdzono, że buduje gniazda z liści bananowca, ukryte między świeżymi liśćmi rośliny, choć znajdowano także gniazda w wysokiej trawie i krzakach. Każde zajmowało jedno dorosłe zwierzę. Żywi się pokarmem roślinnym[5].
Międzynarodowa Unia Ochrony Przyrody uznaje nadrzewnika bananowego za gatunek najmniejszej troski. Nie są znane zagrożenia dla gatunku, jest on szeroko rozpowszechniony i prawdopodobnie żyje w kilku obszarach chronionych[2].
