MATERIAL EXAMINED.—Dominica: East Cabrit (swamp), 4 June 1964, 1 (OF), 27 June 1964, 1 (OF); Hillsborough Estate (slough), 17 Apr. 1964, 3 (OF); Clarke Hall, 10 Mar. 1965, 1 (JC, TC); Trafalgar, 13 Apr. 1964, 1 (OF); Freshwater Lake, 5 June 1964, 1 , 1(OF), 1 (TD), 7 June 1964, 1 (OF), 16 Sept. 1964, 1 (TS), 9 June 1965, 1 (DD).
This is a widespread tropical lacustrine species occurring dominantly in the West Indies. On Dominica most records were during the first months of the rainy season.

Tramea abdominalis, the vermilion saddlebags, is a species of skimmer in the dragonfly family Libellulidae. It is found in the Caribbean Sea, Central America, North America, Oceania, and South America.[2][3][4][5]
The IUCN conservation status of Tramea abdominalis is "LC", least concern, with no immediate threat to the species' survival. The population is stable. The IUCN status was reviewed in 2017.[4][6][7]
