In 1971, however, he included this reference, without comment, in his synonymy of Cellanthus craticulatus [= Elphidium cratulatum]." Whittaker and Hodgkinson (1979), who noticed Hofker's change of opinion, do not list Cushman (1933) reference in their synonymy of C. craticulatus.

Foraminiferans living in polluted environments often show alterations in the morphology of their tests. This individual, isolated from a site in Norway which is contaminated with heavy metals, exhibits reduced chamber size in some of its chambers (notice that the test is not evenly rounded.)
