Maximum longevity: 42 years (captivity)
Observations: While some animals may be sexually mature at age 4, first breeding normally does not occur until later (John Terres 1980). One captive specimen reportedly lived to the age of 42 (http://www.demogr.mpg.de/longevityrecords).
