Description: English: Hexaplex trunculus (Murex trunculus) and the Phoenician Purple Dye extract (Phoenician Purple is NOT the same as Tyrian purple). The snails used to produce this pigment have been cought near the coast of Carthage in Tunisia, the city was an important center of purple dye manufacture along with other Punic colonies in Tunisia such as Meninx, Zouchis and Kerkouane.
