Description: Cypherotylus californicus on Fomitopsis pinicola, Mount Bigelow, Santa Catalina Mountains, Pima County, Arizona, USA. 6 September 2008. I am very pleased indeed whenever I see these beautiful beetles. They are common in the late summer/fall in the mountains of southeastern Arizona. They have become particularly abundant on Mount Bigelow and Mount Lemmon in areas that were severely burned during the Bullock (2002) and Aspen Fire (2003). Date: 31 May 2009, 12:00.
