It is found in South Africa, it is common in cool and moist forests, coastal and riverine bush and kloofs (gorges in the Western Cape along the western coast through the Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern slopes of the escarpment through Eswatini and Mpumalanga to the Soutpansberg in Limpopo.
The wingspan is 34–38 mm for males and 36–42 mm for females. Adults are on wing from September to May.[2]
The larvae feed on Poaceae species, including Pentaschistis capensis and Juncus capensis.

Cassionympha cassius is een vlinder uit de onderfamilie Satyrinae van de familie Nymphalidae.[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1823 door Jean-Baptiste Godart.

Arten lever i og ved skog, og kan finnes flygende mellom underskogen eller ved stier og lysninger. Som vanlig for ringvinger er flukten langsom og vinglete. Larven er funnet på plantene Pentaschistis capensis og Juncus capensis (sivfamilien, Juncaceae).
Arten er utbredt i Sør-Afrika, fra Western Cape til Transvaal.
