The tree is native to Lord Howe Island and New Caledonia. This specimen was collected on Lord Howe Island in 1969, details as follows: "Game 69/009. A small tree about 25 ft. high, with rough fairly soft light grey-brown bark, the wood exuding milky juice when cut. Young lvs. soft, bright green, older lvs. with a black encrusting coating and parasite-damaged. Fls. pale whitish green. Green unripe fruits present. In forest very near the top of Intermediate Hill, on the E. side. Alt. ca. 860 feet". A duplicate of the soecimes is at Kew and is cited in Flora of Australi, Vol. 49, p.147.
