Description: English: Introduced, cool-season, annual, erect legume; to 60 cm tall. Leaves have 3 leaflets, each 5-30 mm long and with toothed margins. The stalk of central leaflet is longer than the two lateral ones. Leaves have a strong smell when crushed. Flowerheads are racemes of 10-60 small, yellow, pea-like flowers. Pods are small, wrinkled and ball-shaped. Flowering is mostly in spring. A native of the Mediterranean region, it is mostly found in disturbed areas (e.g. along roadsides) and as scattered plants. Can grow vigorously and has high nitrogen fixing capacity. Could be used as a green manure but has caused major problems with tainting of milk and meat in the past. Date: 16 October 2015, 09:40:41.
