Persicaria hydropiperoides (Swamp Smartweed) is a species of perennial herb in the family Polygonaceae. It has a self-supporting growth form. It is native to the contiguous United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, North America, eastern north america, Cerrado, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Piauí, Amapá, São Paulo, Rondônia, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Mata Atlântica, Ceará, Sergipe, Roraima, Goiás, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Caatinga, Maranhao, Distrito Federal, Pará, Pantanal, Mato Grosso, Rio de Janeiro, Tocantins, and Pernambuco. Swamp Smartweed has simple, broad leaves and green flowers. Flowers are visited by Burnsius communis. Swamp Smartweed is a photoautotroph.
