Kinetoplastid flagellates, one host, trypanosomatids with a dominant trypomastigote stage in the life cycle but lacking the conspicuous undulating membrane of trypomastigotes of Trypanosoma; epimastigotes and amastigotes also produced; prasites of Diptera and Lepidoptera, often in the malpighian tubules as well as the gut; type species, R. luciliae, from the malpighian tubules of calliphorid and muscid flies.
