Badiera diversifolia DC. Prodr. 1 : 334. 1824. Not Polygala diver si folia L. 1753.
Shrub or small tree 2.5-6 m. high; stem and branches densely puberulous, at length glabrate; leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate or oval-ovate, 3.5-8.5 cm. long, 1.3-3.7 cm. wide, usually and often abruptly narrowed to the obtuse often retuse apex, cuneate at base, sparsely and minutely strigillose both sides; petioles 3-9 mm. long; peduncles 1-1.5 mm. long; axis of racemes 3-6 mm. long; pedicels appressed-puberulous, 2-5 mm. long; sepals suborbicularor deltoid-ovate, 1.2-1.5 mm. long and wide; wings deltoid-ovate, 1.8-2.2 mm. long and wide; upper petals obovate; keel densely appressed-pubescent laterally, 4.2 mm. long; capsule subquadrate, lobed for about one-fifth its length, with rounded lobes, sparsely ciliate, 6.5-10 mm. long, 7-11 mm. wide, on a stipe 2.5 mm. long; seed 6 mm. long; aril 3 mm. deep, somewhat trilobed.
Type locality: Rock Fort, Jamaica.
Distribution: Jamaica, at altitudes of 1065 meters or less.
