Nil, n-a parvi flora Rose, Contr. U. S. Nat. Herb. 5: 139. 1S97. Mascagnia Pringlei Niedzu. Gen. Mase. 9. 1908.
Leaf-blades ovate to oblong-ovate, 2-5 cm. long, acute or abruptly short-acuminate, tomentulose above, lanate beneath, rounded or subcordate at the base, bearing a small stalked gland on either side near the base, short-petioled ; sepals ovate, 2.5-3 mm. long, copiously pubescent and ciliate, the glands fully one half the length of the sepal-body ; petals violet, 5-8 mm. long, with denticulate blades ; samaras suborbicular, sometimes slightly cordate at the base, 13-18 mm. wide, the dorsal wing a mere ridge or crest-like, single or double.
Type locality : Mexico. Distribution : Southern Mexico.
