Shrub or small tree, to 7 m, densely fulvous-stellate-setose, especially on the young parts. Leaves circular or broadly elliptic, 3-5 lobed, stellate-setose above and beneath; petiole up to 5 cm. Flowers up to 5 cm in diameter, pink or white solitary or in short axillary 2-5-flowered racemes. Bracts of epicalyx numerous, up to c.20, often exceeding the calyx; each bract up to 16 mm, filiform or very narrowly linear. Capsule subspherical. Seeds minutely lepidote, not flossy
