Gliding protist, usually with one trailing flagellum visible, but a short anterior flagellum also present. Recurrent flagellum not attached to body, occasionally amoeboid, with cysts and possibly conjugation, from soils. May be related to Heteromita and the other cercomonads. Type species: S. mikrotekteron Sandon, 1924.
