Lotoxalis neaei (DC.) Rose, Contr. U. S. Nat Herb. 10: 115. 1906. Oxalis Neaei DC. Prodr. 1 : 691. 1824.
Plants 9-35 cm. tall, erect, or more or less diffuse, the stem and branches closely pubescent with very fine erect or ascending hairs which are somewhat deciduous in age ; leaves mostly crowded or approximate at intervals along the stem and the branches, the petioles pubescent like the branches; blades of the leaflets ovate to lanceolate, mostly 1-3 cm. long, finely pubescent on both sides, but more densely so beneath, that of the terminal leaflet obtuse, acutish, or notched at the apex, those of the lateral ones usually much smaller and decidedly notched at the apex ; primary peduncles mostly longer than the petioles ; pedicels finely pubescent, 3-5 mm. long ; sepals 3-4 mm. long, the outer ones oblong-lanceolate, pubescent ; longer filaments appendaged below the middle above which they are pubescent ; styles glabrous ; capsules oblong to ovoid, 4-6 mm. long, nearly twice as long as the sepals; seeds about 1.5 mm. long.
Type locality: Acapulco, Mexico.
Distribution : Mexico and Central America to Brazil.

Monoxalis robusta Rose, sp. now
Stem and branches 30 cm. tall or more, woody, closely pubescent with short dark -gray hairs ; leaflets mostly longer than the petioles, the blades oval, varying to slightly ovate or obovate, 4-9 cm. long, abruptly short-tipped at the rounded apex, closely fine-pubescent on both sides, but more copiously so beneath, cordate at the base ; cymes mostly 2-flowered ; bracts setaceous, 4-8 mm. long ; sepals becoming 10-12 mm. long, the outer ones lanceolate, slightly auricled at the base, the 2 inner ones linear ; petals yellow, scarcely twdce as long as the sepals; androecium glabrous; gynoecium pubescent; capsules broadly oblong, 10-12 mm. long.
Type collected in the Barranca de Santa Maria, near Zacupan, Vera Cruz, Mexico, November, 1906, C. A . I'nrpus 22S9.
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.

Plants 12-95 cm. tall, the stem more or less branched, the young branches pubescent with short spreading or ascending hairs ; leaves rather approximate on the young branches, the petioles sparingly pubescent ; blades of the leaflets oval to suborbicular, 1-2.5 cm. long, sparingly ciliate and with scattered hairs on both surfaces, or sometimes glabrous in age, notched at the apex, the lateral leaflets only slightly more deeply notched than the terminal one; primary peduncles mostly longer than the petioles; pedicels often closely pubescent, 3-5 mm. long; sepals 5-6 mm. long, the outer ones lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, often sparingly ciliate and sometimes with few scattered hairs on the back ; longer filaments appendaged below the middle, pubescent; styles pubescent; mature capsules not seen.
Type locality : Tropical America.
Distribution : West Indies and northern South America.

Plants 3-50 cm. tall, the larger ones widely branched and diffuse, the older portions of the stem and branches glabrous, the 3'ounger portions finely and partially appressedpubescent ; leaves mainly crowded or approximate near the tips of the stem and the branches, the petioles more finely pubescent than the stem and branches; blades of the leaflets mostly obovate or orbicular-obovate, 1-2.5 cm. long, or smaller, ciliate and with scattered hairs on the surfaces, especially beneath and there near the veins, those of the terminal leaflets mostly rounded at the apex, those of the lateral ones usually etnarginate and considerably smaller ; primary peduncles as long as the petioles or longer ; pedicels 2-5 mm. long, rather loosely pubescent ; sepals mostly 4-4.5 mm. long, the outer ones oblong-lanceolate, sparingly pubescent, ciliate and minutely bearded at the tip ; petals yellow, 12-14 mm. long; longer filaments appendaged on the back near the middle and pubescent above the appendage ; capsules broadly oblong, nearly 4 mm. long ; seeds about 1.5 mm. long.
