Sparsely branched perennial herb, up to 2 m tall. Stems appressed stellate-hairy. Leaves, up to 6 × 3 cm, ovate to narrowly lanceolate, unlobed, densely stellate hairy on both surfaces; margin serrate; petiole up to 3 cm long. Flowers solitary, axillary, up to 2-3 cm in diameter, red or rarely pink. Epicalyx of 6-7 bracts, 8-10 mm long, linear. Calyx up to 9-10 mm long; lobes linear-lanceolate, 8-9 mm long, stellate hairy. Fruit a subglobose capsule, c. 9 × 9 mm, minutely velvety.
