Leaf-blades ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 5-13 cm. long, usually long-acuminate, deepgreen above, ultimately glabrous or nearly so, pale-green beneath, truncate or subcordate at the base, rather long-petioled ; peduncles and pedicels finely pubescent ; sepals ovate, sometimes broadly so, the glands one half the length of the sepal-body or less ; larger petals 8-12 mm. long ; samaras 4-5 cm. long, the ventral side of the wing with an auricle at the base, the body crested.
Type locality : Martinique.
Distribution: Lesser Antilles and northern South America.
