Fotblomsterfluer (slekten Platycheirus) er en gruppe av fluer som tilhører familien blomsterfluer (Syrphidae). Gruppen er meget artsrik og omfatter rundt 170 beskrevne arter, nye oppdages stadig, av disse er 39 til nå funnet i Norge.

Små til middelsstore (5-11 mm), slanke blomsterfluer, svarte (inkludert ansiktet), blanke med mer eller mindre omfattende lyse støvflekker, vanligvis med gule eller sølvfargede flekker på bakkroppen, noen ganger helt svarte (melanistiske). Som vanlig hos blomsterfluer møtes fasettøynene midt i pannen (holoptiske) hos hannene, mens de er helt adskilte (dichoptiske) hos hunnene. De skiller seg fra den nærtbeslektede slekten Melanostoma på at forbeina nesten alltid har en eller annen form for modifikasjon, ved at leggen er utvidet i den ytterste delen, og/eller at fotleddene er mer eller mindre kraftig utvidete. Frambeina har ofte påfallende, lange hår som kan være krøllede, og ordnet på uliike måter. Bakbeina har ofte et oppsvulmet første fotledd. Artene bestemmes ofte lettest på formen på hannens frambein. Vingene er glassklare eller litt brunlige. Larvene er litt gjennomsiktig grønne.

Levevis

Fotblomsterfluer treffes særlig på fuktige steder som fuktenger, myrer og kjerr. De holder seg mest lavt i vegetasjonen og gjør ikke mye av seg til tross for at de kan være svært tallrike. Som hos de aller fleste Syrphinae lever larvene av bladlus. Alle fluer gjennomgår en fullstendig forvandling, med et puppestadium mellom stadiet som larve og voksen.

Utbredelse

Denne artsrike slekten er vidt utbredt, men det største artsmangfoldet finnes i de nordlige områdene. Særlig synes det å være mange arter i Sibir. Det er kjent ca. 90 arter fra Palearktis, 50 fra Nord-Amerika (en del er holarktiske og finnes i begge disse områdene), videre 13 arter i Sør-Amerika, én art i Sørøst-Asia og 13 i Australia.

Fotblomflugor (Platycheirus) är ett släkte i familjen blomflugor.

Kännetecken

Fotblomflugorna är ett stort släkte med små blomflugor, 5 till 11 millimeter långa. De har en svart grundfärg och en långsträckt kropp. Bakkroppen kan vara helt svart eller ha parfläckar i gult, orange eller rosa. Frambenens form, färg och mönster är viktig för artbestämningen. De olika arterna är ofta väldigt lika varandra, med endast mindre detaljer som skiljer. Även släktet gräsblomflugor har likartade arter.

Levnadssätt

Fotblomflugorna lever främst på fuktiga gräsbevuxna öppna platser, som ängar, stränder, myrar och mossar. De lever tillbakadraget och väl kamouflerade i gräset. Larverna är gråbruna och lever främst på bladlöss. Larverna övervintrar. Larver och puppor kan bli parasiterade av brokparasitsteklar (Ichneumonidae).

Utbredning

Fotblomflugorna är ett stort släkte med cirka 170 arter i världen. De flesta har nordlig utbredning. Det finns 90 arter i palearktis, 50 arter i Nordamerika och 13 arter i Sydamerika. I Norden är 44 arter kända.

Arter i Norden

Arterna i släktet kan delas in i sex grupper främst baserade på hanarnas morfologi:

  • albimanus-gruppen. 8 arter där hanarna oftast har tillplattade framskenben och enstaka längra hår på baksidan av framlåren.
  • ambiguus-gruppen. 5 arter där hanarna har normala framben.
  • clypeatus-gruppen. 13 arter där både hanar och honor har ett ansikte som ej är utskjutande.
  • granditarsus-gruppen. 2 arter med artkarakteristisk teckning på bakkroppen.
