Stentor coeruleus The time lapse sequence with a period length of appr. 4 seconds shows process of defecation. Frame 2 shows the opening cytoproct with intact defecation vacuole membrane. At frame 3 defecation vacuole membrane has opened to release the waste. At frame 5 and 6 we see states of the slowly closing cytoproct. Thuricola folliculata This sessile peritrich ciliat builds chitinous lorica with flap valve. The species houses symbiontic chlorellae. Depth of focus picture shows ciliat and whole lorica with flap valve and epibiontic bacteria. Scale bar indicates 25 µm. Collected from littoral region (reed bed by Phragmites) of a rain storage reservoir in Kiel (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany).
