Hemipristis és un gènere de taurons de la família dels hemigaleids. Conté una espècie vivent, H. elongata, i diverses espècies extintes.
Hemipristis té dos tipus de dents diferents a cada part de la mandíbula. Les del maxil·lar superior actuen com a ganivets, tallant la carn de la presa, mentre que les punxegudes del maxil·lar inferior actuen com a forquilles, clavant-se a la presa i subjectant-la. Com que en el passat no se sabia gaire cosa sobre aquest tauró i les seves dents superiors i inferiors són tan diferents, antigament es classificaven les dents de dalt i de baix en gèneres diferents.

Hemipristis has two distinct types of teeth in each section of its jaw. The ones on the upper jaw act as knives, cutting through the flesh of the prey, while the pointed ones on the bottom act as forks, spearing the prey and holding it down. Because this shark was poorly studied in the past and its top and bottom jaw teeth differ to such a great degree, its top and lower jaw teeth were assigned to a separate genus in the past.

Hemipristis is een geslacht van haaien, dat fossiel bekend is vanaf het Eoceen en worden overal ter wereld gevonden. Tegenwoordig leeft er nog één soort van het geslacht, Hemipristis elongata. De uitgestorven soorten zijn H. curvatus en H. serra
Deze haai zwemt voornamelijk rond in warme kustwateren.
Deze 500 cm lange haai heeft in de bovenkaak driehoekige tanden met gezaagde snijvlakken. De tand op de symphyse is nagenoeg symmetrisch. De zijtanden zijn sterk achterwaarts gericht, naarmate de afstand vanaf het centrum groter wordt.
De kleine tanden in de onderkaak hebben V-vormige bases. De tand op de symphyse is weinig gezaagd. De laterale tanden worden steeds breder en sterker gezaagd.
