Gonatus fabricii, the Boreo-atlantic Armhook Squid, is a squid in the family Gonatidae. It occurs in the northern Atlantic Ocean from Canada to the Barents Sea.

Until 1981, the name G. fabricii was usually misapplied to the very similar relative G. steenstrupi.

G. fabricii grows to 30 cm in mantle length.[3]

The type specimen was collected off Greenland and is deposited at the Zoologisk Museum of Kobenhavns Universitet in Copenhagen.[4]

Gonatus fabricii is een soort in de taxonomische indeling van de inktvissen, een klasse dieren die tot de stam der weekdieren (Mollusca) behoort. De inktvis komt enkel in zout water voor en is in staat om van kleur te veranderen. Hij beweegt zich voort door water in zijn mantel te pompen en het er via de sifon weer krachtig uit te persen. De inktvis is een carnivoor en zijn voedsel bestaat voornamelijk uit vis, krabben, kreeften en weekdieren die ze met de zuignappen op hun grijparmen vangen.

De inktvis komt uit het geslacht Gonatus en behoort tot de familie Gonatidae. Gonatus fabricii werd in 1818 beschreven door Lichtenstein.[1]
