At first it was hard to tell what was going on. It looked like an epic battle for supremacy...But upon closer inspection I found that the battle was already over. The wasp with the brightly colored antennae had killed the hapless wolf spider and was dragging it across my lawn. Backwards. The wasp is about the size of my thumb. As you can see, the spider only barely smaller. I took many pictures, and even some video, but the wasp was really moving, so getting anything in focus was fairly difficult. To add to the difficulty, any time I came within a few feet of it, it would drop its victim and charge straight at me. Once satisfied that I had been properly cowed, it would resume its gruesome journey.I like wolf spiders more than I like wasps. Soon after this picture was taken, the wasp joined the ranks of the deceased. No doubt shepherded to its afterlife by an honor guard of hairy-legged arachnids.
