Description of Pseudochilodonopsis

provided by BioPedia
Chlamydodontid ciliates, with distinct postoral break or unciliated field in ventral somatic kineties; preoral kinety fragmented, along preoral suture. Outline shape oval to reniform, often with an anterior left-hand rostrum. Dorso-ventrally flattened, ventral surface flat, dorsal surface arched except for an anterior flattened region. The oral aperture is oval and is supported by a basket of trichites. Somatic cilia restricted to ventral surface consisting of several longitudinal kineties on the right of which most curve round the anterior region of the cell. On the left there is another field of longitudinal kineties which are separated from the right field by the large post-oral gap. There are 2 pre-oral kineties close to the oral aperture and the more anterior one curves around it. There are also 4 other short separating it from the closely related genus Chilodonella which has a single kinety stretching along the suture line. Macronucleus ovoid; with 2 contractile vacuoles.
