Stauracanthid acantharea, large (over 1 mm. diameter), spicule wings 20-70 µm long, wings with marginal serrations; bases of spicules are pyramidal with six lateral blades limiting pyramidal cavities; cell body polygonal; ectoplasmic region delicate, endoplasm with numerous nuclei, pigments, symbiotic algae and other inclusions; opaque yellow-brown or green-brown. Cosmopolitan.
