Plants medium-sized, 20–30 mm high, yellowish green, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple, rarely irregularly branched, often radiculose at base. Leaves contorted when dry, erect-spreading when moist, narrowly ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, bluntly acuminate; margins plane, entire below, irregularly serrulate near apex; costa stout, percurrent or ending in a few cells below apex; upper leaf cells small, irregularly rounded-hexagonal or subquadrate, rather thick-walled, obscure, multi-papillose on both surfaces, marginal cells more thickly walled, papillae indistinct; basal cells differentiated, often larger, rectangular, smooth, hyaline. Gemmae club-shaped, in clusters in leaf axils. Sporophytes not seen.
