It is native to Puerto Rico, Goiás, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Pantanal, Roraima, Amapá, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Cerrado, Rio Grande do Norte, Mata Atlântica, Rondônia, Amazônia, Tocantins, Paraíba, Acre (Brazil), Caatinga, Piauí, Pampa, Bahia, Pará, Alagoas, Espirito Santo, Sergipe, Maranhao, São Paulo, Ceará, Pernambuco, Amazônia, Paraná, and Distrito Federal. Tropical Nutrush is a photoautotroph.
