General Description

Colonies. On Czapek agar 20-33 (mostly 28 mm diam.) after 7 days at 25°C, with shades of orange or reddish to dark brown colour; mostly diffusing pigmentation into the surrounding agar; colourless exudate usually produced; growth spreading and enhanced at 40°C, 31-51 (commonly above 45 mm diam.) after 7 days; hülle cells up to 34 μm but commonly 25 μm. Conidiophores. 20-100 μm long, but in some strains up to 200 μm. Conidia. 2.5-5 μm wide. Ascomata. Cleistothecial, about 250 (-500) μm diam. Ascospores. Body 3.5-6 μm, with four equatorial crests.

Aspergillus quadrilineatus is a species of fungus in the genus Aspergillus. It is from the Nidulantes section.[2] The species was first described in 1939.[1] It has been isolated from soil in New Jersey, Egypt, Spain, China, and Namibia.[2] It has been reported to produce asperthecin, averufin, 7-methoxyaverufin, sterigmatocystin, versicolourin, desferritriacetylfusigen, echinocandin B & E, variacoxanthone B, emestrin, aurantioemestrin, dethiosecoemestrin, emindol DA, microperfuranone, penicillin G, quadrilineatin, and sterigmatocystin.[2]

Growth and morphology

A. quadrilineatus has been cultivated on both Czapek yeast extract agar (CYA) plates and Malt Extract Agar Oxoid® (MEAOX) plates. The growth morphology of the colonies can be seen in the pictures below.
