Genipa americana (Jagua) is a species of tree in the family Rubiaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Tocantins, Acre (Brazil), Sergipe, Rio De Janeiro, ParaíBa, Pantanal, Ceará, Mato Grosso Do Sul, U.S. Virgin Islands, Espirito Santo, Piauí, Alagoas, Pará, Paraná, Distrito Federal, Santa Catarina, Cerrado, Maranhao, Mata Atlântica, GoiáS, Amazônia, Rio Grande Do Norte, Roraima, Minas Gerais, Puerto Rico, Pernambuco, SãO Paulo, Bahia, Amapá, Mato Grosso, RondôNia, and Caatinga. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 23 m.
