This picture was taken on the property of friends in Pleasant Valley New York. It is not uncommon for them to have nut bearing trees as it seems the trees were once plentiful on this property. This tree will soon perish. Once the tree matures to where it bears fruit a fungus attacks the bark. New shoots will grow from ancient roots that are still alive.
