On the previous day,
I highlighted the female painted bunting. This time, it's the
male Painted Bunting (Passerina ciris), one of the most colorful birds in Texas. If a five year old got his hands on a brand new box of Crayolas and a coloring book of birds, this is what you might expect - bright splashes of yellows, reds, blues and greens. Unfortunately, I am somewhat disappointed by this photograph (even though it's the best I had in the set), but it will serve as a placeholder in my collection of bird photographs until I can get a better one. The painted bunting is a fairly common bird throughout the Hill Country, so no doubt I'll have more opportunities for better shots in the future.Find more photos from my 2010 Picture a Day set at:
