Colonies. Heterothallic. Velvety with a finely granular uniform surface and a fluffy asteroid margin; surface pale buff; reverse straw to salmon; spiral hyphae moderately abundant on vegetative mycelium of old cultures. Conidia. Of two types: "macroconidia" numerous, borne terminally on complex branched hyphae, colourless, smooth, fusiform, occasionally cylindro-fusiform, 30-80 × 6-11 μm, with 4- to 7- (to 10-) septate; individual cells swelling in older cultures to form intercalary, thick-walled "chlamydospores"; "microconidia" rare in young cultures, more abundant in old cultures, clavate to pyriform, 2-6.5 × 1.5-4 μm, sessile or on short pedicels, and borne singly along the sides of the hyphae. Ascomata. Globose, pale buff to buff, 200-700 μm, thin, excluding appendages; peridial hyphae pale buff, septate, with somewhat thin, verruculose walls; up to three secondary branches arising from the apex of the same cell of a peridial hypha; distal branches curving over the ascoma, and ultimate branches rarely composed of more than two or three cells; cells of inner parts of the peridial hyphae 12.5-21 × 3-4.5 μm, not narrower, but wider towards the apex from which the branches arise, 5-7 μm diam.; cells of the outer branches asymmetrically narrower, 6.5-12.5 × 4.2-6.7 μm at their widest part; appendages slender, smooth, septate, spiral hyphae; peridial hyphae bearing smooth, cylindrical to fusiform "macroconidia". Asci. Subglobose, thin-walled, evanescent, 5-6.7 μm diam., 8-spored. Ascospores. Colourless, smooth, oblate, 2.5-3.5 × 1.5-2.5 μm, yellow in mass.
